Assen GP FP2: Yamaha, yet Different…

Fabio Quartararo dominated Assen’s first free practice session against Maverick Viñales (read here); the roles were reversed during the second session, this Friday afternoon.

The times have improved significantly, but the three men of the MotoGP podium on Friday remained unchanged in FP2: Maverick Viñales, Fabio Quartararo and Danilo Petrucci continue to lead. The difference is that this time, the 1st place was not gleaned by the French but by the Spaniard, while the Italian is still 3rd.

After spending part of the session in the lead, Andrea Dovizioso finally finished 4th but more than 6 tenths of the leader. Alex Rins remains in the top-5, while Andrea Iannone is looking for a surprising 6th place (he was already more comfortable than usual in FP1). The world number one, Marc Marquez, provides the essential in 7th place.

At 2 thousandths of Marc Marquez comes Joan Mir, very good 8th, who places both Suzuki in the top-10. A top-10 also featuring Valentino Rossi, back to 9th. Cal Crutchlow closes the race, making Francesco Bagnaia (11th) the virtual first eliminated in the race for Q2.

Karel Abraham continues to show beautiful things and comes to rank 12th. Franco Morbidelli has trouble finding his way (14th). The first KTM of Pol Espargaro is 15th, two positions ahead of his teammate Johann Zarco who fell. Back from injury, Aleix Espargaro is far (19th). Note the absence of Jorge Lorenzo, package after his fall in FP1.
