German GP FP4: Iannone Takes Control

Iannone builds confidence with FP4 topping performance

No signs of rain as MotoGP™ riders finalise their plans ahead of Qualifying for the GoPro Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland, Iannone fastest.

Confidence continued to grow in the MotoGP™ World Championship as riders had a useful Free Practice 4 session at the Sachsenring. For some riders FP4 was a chance to test tyres and options for the race, for others it offered a final session to get in the zone for Qualifying.

The usual suspects were at the front with Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) once again topping the session. His 1’22.005 but him 0.126s clear of Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team). Both riders will head directly to Q2 after strong performances in all four practice sessions.20160716_German_GP_FP4_Marquez_Iannone

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) made good progress to end the session third with Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) completing the top five. Times remain tantalisingly close, half a second splitting the fastest five riders.

Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), Aleix Espargaro (Team Suzuki Ecstar), Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda), Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Yakhnich) and Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) formed the top ten.

All eyes were on Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), the Spaniard having one of his worst weekends of the year. Some hope was offered as he progressed his way to 11th, but being a 0.891s slower than Iannone leaves quite a gap to close for Sunday.
