Aprilia Racing had a perfect start to the Gran Premio Michelin® de la República Argentina as Maverick Viñales and Aleix Espargaro took the first and second spots respectively in MotoGP™ P1, with Viñales setting a time of 1:39.207 to beat his teammate by 0.284s. Jorge Martin of Prima Pramac Racing completed the top three in a session that could prove to be crucial. There was one crash reported as Alex Rins of LCR Honda Castrol tumbled at Turn 1 but emerged unharmed. Rain threatened to disrupt proceedings in Termas de Rio Hondo, but the final 10 minutes of P1 were hectic as riders pushed for the top 10 spots. The World Championship leader Francesco Bagnaia squeezed into the top 10 in P10, but Fabio Quartararo of Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™ was 0.9s off the pace in P15, needing to improve in P2 to try and secure a top 10 finish.
